Pandit Bal Krishna Shastri learned astrology and traditional priestly practice from his elder brother, who served as a pandit in Gujarat. He did not study astrology at a formal institution in Gujarat; his knowledge developed through the family guru-shishya tradition, self-study and many years of practice.

He serves as Chief Priest of Durga Mata Mandir at Survey Chowk, Dehradun and as a regular priest at Rajpragyeshwar Mahadev Temple in Lok Bhavan, Dehradun. Alongside temple service, he provides pujas, sanskars, havans and astrology consultations for families.
